WHO IS ON THE TEAM AT PEAK BEHAVIORAL SERVICES?
The team consists of psychiatrists, physical health doctors, therapists, nurses and mental health technicians. These team members work together to ensure each patient receives a high level of quality care throughout their time in our program.
HOW DOES SOMEONE ACCESS PEAK’S PROGRAMS?
Peak Behavioral Services takes the mystery out of trying to find out how to get an assessment. Our assessors are available 24/7 to take your call, answer your questions and do an assessment. Any person can call us and you do not need a formal outside referral to receive an assessment from our clinicians.
HOW DO VISITING HOURS WORK FOR THE INPATIENT PROGRAM?
Visiting hours are important because it helps us to keep structure. Those visitors who are on approved list will know which days and times they are able to visit. We typically do not allow more than two visitors at a time and also do not recommend bringing children.
WHAT IS TREATMENT LIKE?
Structure is key to our success. We know and understand a therapeutic structured environment is the focus of everything we do. Treatment is delievered by a multiple professionals who work as a team to provide individual support to the patient. The programs are coordinated in group settings as well as individual time. Each program includes varying levels of group therapy, individual therapy, recreational therapy and medication management.
WHAT DO YOU ASSESS FOR DURING THE FREE ASSESSMENT?
Our trained staff is assessing for all levels of care when a person is being assessed. This means we are looking to learn more about the person’s mental health needs through a series of questions and observation. At times, a person may be need to be placed on a 72-hour involuntary hold if they pose a danger to themselves or others. Some patients may be appropriate for our outpatient setting, depending on their situation. Sometimes we will make a recommendation and the individual will refuse. We are happy to give options about the local resources in the community.
DO I NEED TO HAVE A FORMAL REFERRAL TO GET AN ASSESSMENT?
No. Anyone can call us 24/7 for help and support. It is actually the clinical team internally who recommends the best course of action.

WHAT IS CASE MANAGEMENT AND DISCHARGE PLANNING AND WHAT DO THEY INCLUDE?
Case management and discharge planning is a time to work with a therapist or discharge planner to determine what your needs will be as you transition from hospital care back into your community and home. This will include scheduling outpatient services as needed, and seeking support services that are easily accessible to you.
WHAT IS RECREATIONAL THERAPY?
This group utilizes mediums of art, music, play and sports to assist children in identifying and expressing issues. These activities are designed to create an outlet for relaxation and socialization while increasing awareness of appropriate leisure time activities.
WHAT IS GROUP THERAPY LIKE?
This is a discussion group lead by a program therapist that is designed to assist the patient in identifying and resolving the problem(s) which precipitated the need for their hospitalization. These are problems which, if unaddressed, will likely contribute to the individual having continued difficulty in less structured settings after discharge. This group encourages patients to see that they have choices to make on a day to day basis which strongly influence their lives.
WHAT IS FAMILY THERAPY AND HOW IS THIS COORDINATED?
Family therapy will be offered by the assigned program therapist on a weekly basis to each individual residing in a family. The program therapist will work with each patient and his or her family from a family systems perspective to improve positive family communication, positive family coping and to achieve identified treatment goa
WHAT IS INDIVIDUAL THERAPY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Individual therapy will be offered to each patient by his or her assigned program therapist. The program therapist will meet with the individual one-to-one working to establish a therapeutic alliance and encourage problem solving in a compassionate and supportive environment. In individual therapy, the therapist will complete a thorough psychosocial assessment of the individual and identify strengths and needs, and help the patient identify and work towards achieving his or her treatment goals.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND IS DISCHARGED?
Upon discharge, every patient is scheduled to meet with a provider in the community for a follow-up appointment. The provider in the community will receive a discharge summary outlining a treatment plan and any new medications. Our team does not follow the patient upon discharge but is happy to help answer any questions to ensure a smooth transition.

WHAT IS MY FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND DOESN’T BELIEVE THEY NEED HELP?
This is a difficult question. Many times we recommend being as supportive as possible during this time. Offer to bring them in for an assessment. Help them make the call or see if they will call on their own. If you believe your loved one is in a potential life-threatening situation, please call 911 immediately.
HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT MY PATIENT OR CLIENT TO BE IN THE INPATIENT OR OUTPATIENT PROGRAM?
The length of stay can vary by population and individual needs. Because we are an acute setting we usually have individuals seeking treatment stay with us between nine and fifteen days. Sometimes they stay for a shorter or longer period of time. The outpatient program is a structured day and can last typically between two and six weeks depending on the individual’s needs.
WHAT IF THEY RECEIVE AN ASSESSMENT AND YOU ARE NOT THE RIGHT PLACE FOR THEM? WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

HOW DOES IT WORK FOR VISITING HOURS ON THE INPATIENT UNIT?
Each unit has a different set schedule for visiting hours. Designated and approved visitors are welcome during these times and will be shared by the person’s therapist.
HOW ARE THE SERVICES PAID FOR? IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO DO?
We accept Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare and most commercial insurances. This is something our team coordinates and all you need to do is send your patient or client to us for an assessment. We are happy to help answer any questions you or your patient or client may have related to cost.

There are many reasons a person may need our help. They may have severe or mild behavioral health challenges and it is important to note we can offer support at varying levels. Some of the most common reasons providers look to our team to help is when someone is suffering from anxiety, feelings of depression, changes in relationships, racing thoughts, auditory or visual hallucinations and thoughts or feelings of self-harm.
WHAT IS YOUR TREATMENT APPROACH?
We take a multidisciplinary team approach to ensure each patient receives individualized quality care in a therapeutic environment. We understand behavioral health treatment is not a “one size fits all” and our team works with the patient and their families to work towards the best outcome.

Patients should expect to find a welcoming and safe environment of trained professionals who encourage healthy personal growth and development. Each patient has individual goals designed to support them in achieving the best results and will be assigned to a professional who will support them while in our program.
WHAT IS THE HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT LIKE FOR PATIENTS?
We take great care to ensure our patients feel safe, comfortable and welcomed in our environment. We have thoughtfully designed our hospital to be as therapeutic as possible with outdoor courtyards, gymnasiums and plenty of windows allowing the natural light to enter rooms.
HOW DO YOU SERVE DIFFERENT POPULATIONS IN ONE PLACE?
Our team understands the diverse groups of people we serve come with special therapeutic considerations. The structure of our hospital’s programs ensures all the patients receive age-appropriate treatment related to individual therapy, group therapy, recreational therapy and medication management. Our programming is delivered separately between our seniors, adults and adolescent age groups.
